Man -- we felt good going into our usual Trivia Night. We were ready! In Team Trivia each week, they basically give you one answer (which is to a nearly impossible question) and a hint on a category that comes up somewhere. The hint was AA Ron, (https://youtu.be/Dd7FixvoKBw?si=-HIpRqgSwKyYJbSR), meaning or suggesting famous Aarons, which -- in the end -- didn't help.

1st Half

Round 1

Military Geography - This base in NC, Fort Liberty, originally carried the last name of a Confederate General and a WW2 solider, and is to be renamed again for it. What was the name? A: Fort Bragg (Correct)

Snacks - According to the manufacturer Little Debbie, this classic snack will not survive a nuclear holocaust but instead only has a shelf life of 45 days? A: Twinkies (Correct)

TV Quotes - What Star Trek character had said "My Father's race was spared the dubious benefits of alcohol'? A: Spock (Correct - not gonna to miss a ST Q)

Round 2

Movie Lines: What 1990's Oscar-nominated move features the line "I am not sure I agree with your police work 100% there, Lou"? A: The Departed (Incorrect. Correct - Fargo)

Round 3

TV Characters - With the first name Cordell, what Chuck Norris character had a show that ran for 9 seasons? A: ? Incorrect. Correct: Walker, Texas Ranger (could see the face, couldn't pull up the show name).

Government - From 1933 - 1944, Cordell Hull was the longest serving member of what Cabinet Post? A: Sec of State (Correct).

American Lit - In the book the Sun Also Rises, what was the occupation of Pedro Romero? A: Bullfighter (Correct).

Halftime

  2. Haydn Panettierre as Juliette Barnes. A - Nashville (Correct)

  3. Sylvester Stallone as Dwight Manfredi. A - Tulsa King (Correct)

We were very lucky to get 3/4 in this category given our dismal pop culture chops. We were in a solid 2nd place after halftime with a total of 31 out of 35 points. Leaders had 34.

2nd Half

Round 4

Movie Lines - in the marvel movie "Avengers: Age of Ultron", there is a one point in the movie where Ultron starts to quote the lines of what famous Disney movie? A: Pinocchio (Correct)

Behind the Music - In 2007, record executives found this pop heart throb by stumbling across his You Tube channel? A: Justin Bieber (Correct).

Magazines - What magazine was at the center of a Supreme Court case involving a defamation lawsuit brought by Jerry Falwell in 1988? A: Penthouse. (Incorrect. Correct - Hustler. There was also a lawsuit between Falwell and Penthouse but only was in district court. We knew the Larry Flint thing, but did not know it was against Falwell. In short we guessed wrong).

Science - This highly toxic alkaloid derived from plants was once used to help heart conditions, act as a stimulant and help constipation, before being banned? A: Digitalis (Incorrect. Correct - Strychnine).

Round 6

Bible - According to the book of Exodus, how much older was Aaron than Moses (here is the famous Aaron Q): a) 3 years b) 10 years c) 30 years d) 100 years. A: 10 years (Incorrect. Correct - 3 years. As a note, we were sad to miss this since we read the Bible a lot. Our thinking is that if it were only 3 years, wouldn't Aaron also be under Pharoah decree to kill male children? And it couldn't be more than 10 since Moses was already 80 when he came back to free the Israelites, which would make Aaron at least 90 - and then ancient after wandering in the desert for 40 years. So, we went with 10. Dang.)

Language - The Walloons in the south speak Belgian but what language do the Walloons in the north speak? A: Flemish (Correct)

Basketball - In 2025, Max McLung of the Orlando Magic became on the 2nd player in NBA history to do what three times? A: Win the dunk contest (Correct. His dunks were awesome).

Score going into the final: We had 53 and the leaders had 58.

Final: World Cities

In 1634, the Spanish royalty decreed this West Indies city -- now a capital -- was 'the Key to the New World and a Rampart to the West Indies'? A: Santo Domingo. (Incorrect. Correct - Havana).

Ah c'est la vie. We felt good and learned some things and had a good time! But failed to grab the $50! We will need to seek out a place in Orlando next week to try and play.
